Fruits and Veggies that spoil quickly

We all want to eat healthier and what is the best way to do that?  By eating fruits and vegetables, but their are certain fruits and vegetables that spoil faster than others.

Berries
Fresh Strawberries, Raspberries, Blackberries and Blueberries are great and very flavorful, but did you know that the lifespan of the freshness of these berries begins to shorten as soon as they are harvested?  In some cases it is shortened even more by bruising during shipment to your local store or farmers market.

Usually after purchasing fresh berries, they usually last approximately two (2) days before beginning to spoil.  When purchasing fresh berries, you should look for brightly colored, firm, dry and loosely packed containers and be sure to keep them refrigerated to maintain freshness the longest.

Broccoli & Green Beans
While these vegetables lasts for up to a week before beginning to spoil, they can spoil much faster if stored close with Apples, Bananas and Tomatoes.  Apples, Bananas and Tomatoes produce ethylene gas, this gas is damaging to Broccoli and Green Beans.

These are only a few examples of products that begin to spoil rapidly, but with any product that you want to prolong the life and limit spoilage.  Look at keeping refrigerated, storing with like products that do not damage each other or the use of alternative means of storage.
